Unemployed and frustrated, young Vincenzo befriends his bitter neighbor, Mr. Bartoloni, who is trapped in a loveless marriage with his alcoholic wife. One night, Bartoloni suggests staging his wife’s accidental death in exchange for money. When she later dies under suspicious circumstances, Bartoloni suspects Vincenzo and reports him.
