Pale, dirty, and emaciated, Giovanni Velasques returns to his hometown, a small village perched in the mountains of Sicily.
A dark trauma from the war triggers a violent crisis within him.
He is freed from this suffering by an old maara who initiates him into the art of magic, revealing to him that he possesses the "gift": the spirit of a deceased man through whom he can help others.
Soon, the authority gained by the new mage brings him into conflict with other faces of power: the church and the mafia.
Giovanni sinks back into a solitude that hardens him, until the cry of pain from his family calls him back to his role as a father, urging him to renounce that diabolic spirit dwelling in his body.
But can this sacred soul, revered as a deity, truly be lost to oblivion?
