Die 15. Ausgabe des KURDISCHEN FILM FESTIVALS wird von 9. und 15. Oktober 2025 im Babylon stattfinden!

Das Kurdische Filmfestival Berlin, veranstaltet von mîtosfilm, wurde im Jahr 2002 gegründet und feiert im September seine fünfzehnten  Aufführung.

In seiner Einzigartigkeit ist das Festival die größte Veranstaltung zum kurdischen Film in Europa.

he 15th Kurdish Film Festival Berlin (September 25 to October 1, 2025) will open with the award-winning film “The Virgin and Child with Guests” by director Berivan Binevsa.

The film premiered at the Ostend Film Festival and won awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actress at the Duhok Film Festival, Cinémed (France), and the Kurdish Film Festival in Düsseldorf.

Director Berivan Binevsa and lead actress Hêvîn Tekin will be present at the opening.

“The Virgin and Child” tells the powerful story of Avesta, a young Yazidi woman and ISIS survivor, who seeks justice in Brussels while confronting her past and an unwanted motherhood.

“We chose ‘The Virgin and Child’ as our opening film because it beautifully represents this year’s festival theme: ‘Tolerance and Coexistence of Ethnic and Religious Minorities in Kurdistan.’ For thousands of years, Kurds have lived side by side with Assyrians, Armenians, Arabs, and Turks of various faiths such as Yazidism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. We want to shed light on this shared heritage and look forward to the films and discussions during the festival,” says Festival Director Nubar Hamamci.

Das diesjährige Kurdische Filmfestival Berlin widmet sich dem Thema:
„Toleranz und Koexistenz ethnischer und religiöser Minderheiten in Kurdistan.“

Seit Tausenden von Jahren leben Kurden Seite an Seite mit Assyrern, Armeniern, Arabern und Türken in Kurdistan, einem Gebiet, das eine Vielzahl von Religionen umfasst, wie Êzidismus, Judentum, Alevitentum, Christentum und Islam.

Toleranz und nachbarschaftliche Koexistenz wurden stets hochgeschätzt – doch politische Interessen und staatliche Strategien haben diese Tradition immer wieder gestört. Trotzdem sind die Wurzeln einer alten Zivilisation bis heute in Mesopotamien, im Herzen des Landes zwischen Tigris und Euphrat, tief verankert.

In dieser Ausgabe des Festivals präsentieren wir Filme, die das multikulturelle Leben in Kurdistan in all seiner Vielfalt widerspiegeln. Unser Programm umfasst eine kuratierte Auswahl von etwa 50 Filmen, darunter 20 Fokusfilme, die eine breite Palette von Genres abdecken – von Kurzfilmen über Dokumentationen bis hin zu Spielfilmen, sowohl zeitgenössisch als auch klassisch.

Zu den Highlights gehören der Eröffnungsfilm The Virgin and Child von Binevşa Bêrîvan, die persönlich anwesend sein wird, um ihren Film vorzustellen, sowie Zare von Hamo Beknazaryan aus Armenien und Pinkas Dream von Ruth Walk aus Israel.

Ein Festival der Verbindung, vielfältiger Perspektiven und kulturellen Dialogs – mitten in Berlin.

This year’s Kurdish Film Festival Berlin is dedicated to:
“Tolerance and Coexistence of Ethnic and Religious Minorities in Kurdistan.”

For thousands of years, Kurds have lived side by side with Assyrians, Armenians, Arabs, and Turks in Kurdistan, encompassing a wide range of religions such as Êzidî, Judaism, Alevism, Christianity, and Islam.

Tolerance and neighborly coexistence have always been highly valued — yet political interests and state strategies have repeatedly disrupted this tradition. Still, between the Tigris and Euphrates, in the heart of Mesopotamia, the roots of an ancient civilization remain deeply felt to this day.

In this edition of the festival, we bring together films that portray multicultural life in Kurdistan in all its diversity. We will present a curated selection of around 50 films, including 20 focus films that cover a wide range of genres — from short films to documentaries and feature films, both contemporary and classic.

Highlights include the opening film The Virgin and Child by Binevşa Bêrîvan, who will be present to introduce her film, as well as Zare by Hamo Beknazaryan from Armenia and Pinkas Dream by Ruth Walk from Israel.

A festival for connection, diverse perspectives, and cultural dialogue — right in the heart of Berlin.
