This Mountain Life, CAN 2019, R: Grant Baldwin mit Martina Halik, Tania Halik, 77 Min, OmU

This Mountain Life is a compelling and poignant portrayal of the human passion found in Canada's wilderness. After months of preparation, Martina and her 60-year-old mother, Tania, embark on a six-month, 1,400-mile journey.

From Squamish, British Columbia, to Alaska, through unforgiving mountain terrain. There are other people who share Martina's passion for mountain life: A group of nuns who live in a monastery in the mountains to be closer to God; a photographer who was buried under an avalanche; a passionate alpinist; a highly focussed snow artist; a couple who have been living off the grid in the vastness of the mountains for 50 years.

What motivates these people to sacrifice their comfort, family and personal safety for a life in the mountains? The excitement generated by mountain landscapes is universal yet in an area that is 75% mountains, most locals rarely venture into the true wilderness. However, there is a special group of people who define themselves not only by their age, gender, profession or their past, but above all by the attraction of the mountains, which is so strong for them that they focus their whole lives on it.
