Iracema An Amazonian Transaction [OmeU], Brazil, 1974, R: Jorge Bodanzky and Orlando Senna, 90 Min

 Free Admission! Eintritt frei!

In contrast with the official propaganda of the military rule which boasted of an expanding country with the construction of the Transamazônica Highway, a sensitive camera discloses the problems the highway would bring to the area: deforestation, burnings, slave labor, and child prostitution. In a work that blends documentary and fiction, a small cinema crew enters the Amazon to shoot a movie with huge formal freedom.

A thread of plot: a trucker, Tião Brasil Grande (Paulo César Pereio), meets a young prostitute, Iracema (Edna de Cássia). Together they travel across the Amazon, then a national security region under strict military control, acting with residents and interacting with other performers.
