Anne Knödler, Elisabeth Oertel, Efy Zeniou, Kaupo Holmberg und Johannes Fötsch sind Absolventen europäischer Kunsthochschulen und bilden zusammen das Künstlerkollektiv Leavinghomefunktion. Nach ihrem Abschluss wollten sie ihre Komfortzone verlassen, verkauften ihren gesamten Hausstand, haben sich alte Ural-Motorräder zugelegt und sich dann auf den Weg nach New York gemacht. Dafür entschieden sie sich für die längstmögliche Route und haben deshalb zweieinhalb Jahre den ganzen Osten durchquert. Dazu kommt, dass die alten sowjetischen Zweiräder für langsames Vorankommen und zahlreiche Pannen sorgten. Doch genau diese Umstände ließ dem Kollektiv die Möglichkeit, sich intensiv mit Land und Leuten auseinanderzusetzen und ein einmaliges Abenteuer zu erleben.

972 Breakdowns is the story of five young artists who decide to exchange exhibition for expedition. Anne, Efy, Elisabeth, Johannes, and Kaupo have a plan. They will put their studios on wheels and travel from Germany, all the way to New York city.
Their route through the East will probably satisfy their curiosity to discover the meaning of distance: 40.000 kilometers of roads dissolving into deserts… dissolving into swamps… dissolving into rivers… All the way they will keep pushing, pulling and fixing looking for the point where they can’t go on…
Through their Breakdown Theater they come in contact with the strangest mix of people around the globe. Pulled, pushed and towed – with their help they always got a bit further… until the next breakdown!
