Der Film „P16“ dokumentiert ein Musiktheaterstück der Gruppe Schicht vom Ende der 1970er Jahre über das Leben einer Gruppe von Lehrlingen in der DDR.
Es hatte Premiere am 14. September 1978 im Studiotheater des Kulturpalastes Dresden.
Der Film basiert auf einem Original-Tonmitschnitt des Stücks aus dem Jahr 1978. Das Bildmaterial einiger bedeutender Fotografen ist Material dieser Zeit.
Die Musik changiert zwischen Rock und Brechtscher Theatermusik. Im damaligen Verständnis ein „Musical“.
In dieser Zeit betrat eine Generation die Bühne, die nicht mehr belastet war durch
Krieg und Nachkriegszeit und mit den An- und Widersprüchen des sich selbst „real“ nennenden Sozialismus aufwuchs.
So entsteht ein Bilderbogen: Es sind die Konturen eines ungeschönten Lebens, in denen sich junge Leute, diese Lehrlinge zurechtfinden müssen;
eines Lebens zwischen Arbeit und Freizeit, zwischen Liebe und Verrat, zwischen Politik und Akklamation, zwischen Jungsein und Erwachsenwerden, zwischen
Wahrheit und Illusion. Zwischen Hoffnung und Enttäuschung.
Zwischen Anspruch und Wirklichkeit lebend, tasten sich die Akteure des Stücks, Reny und Oskar, Charly und Flöte, der Lehrmeister und
Weitere, an diese Welt heran und prüfen sie und sich, ob es ihre Welt sein wird. Das Ergebnis bleibt offen.

The film "P16" (Rated 16) documents a musical theater piece by the Schicht group from the late 1970s about the life of a group of apprentices in the GDR.
It premiered on September 14, 1978, in the studio theater of the Kulturpalast Dresden.
The film is based on an original sound recording of the play from 1978, featuring footage from notable photographers of the period.
The music oscillates between rock and Brechtian theater music. In the understanding of the time, a “musical”.
