Ein Film über Trennungen und gleichzeitig ein Liebesgedicht an Cuba. Milagros schlägt sich durch, indem sie Erdnusstütchen auf der Straße verkauft und in alten Briefen liest, die ihr Mann ihr aus dem Angolakrieg geschickt hatte. Täglich geht sie noch zum Bahnhof und erwartet, dass er vielleicht aus irgendeinem Zug steigt. Die Puppenspielerin Edith wartet auf die Einladung aus Europa, während ihr Partner Alex zurückbleiben wird. Frank und Alain sind beste Schulfreunde und träumen davon, Baseballstars in den USA zu werden, der eine von beiden wird tatsächlich bald ausreisen. Die Bildsprache des in statischen Einstellungen in Schwarz/Weiß gefilmten Werks zeichnet das Werk aus. „Manche Bilder zwingen den Betrachter wie ein Gemälde im Museum in seinen Bann (...) Der Film zeigt die Insel so, wie sie selten gefilmt worden ist“(„Micropsiacine.com“). Auch wenn es um Themen wie Migration und Trennung geht, ist Los Oceanos... so gefilmt, dass man „eher dorthin möchte als von dort abhauen zu wollen. Das Land ist ein magischer Ort, (...) der gleichzeitig extrem traurig und extrem schön sein kann“(„The Hollywood Reporter“). Der Film hatte seine internationale Premiere auf dem Festival in Venedig.
Über den Regisseur: Tommaso Santambrogio, (*Italien 1992), Filmemacher und Schriftsteller, lebte und studierte in Mailand, Rom, Paris und Havanna. Zusammenarbeit mit renommierten Regisseuren wie Werner Herzog und Lav Díaz. Seine Kurzfilme wurden in Venedig und auf anderen wichtigen Festivals weltweit präsentiert. Die kubanisch-italienische Koproduktion Los Oceanos son los verdaderos continentes ist sein erster Langspielfilm und hatte seine Premiere auf dem Festival in Venedig, wo er im Wettbewerb lief. Auf dem Festival in Havanna sorgte der Film aufgrund seiner Bildsprache für Aufmerksamkeit.

A film about break-ups and, at the same time, a love poem to Cuba. Milagros scrapes by selling packets of peanuts on the street and reading old letters her husband sent her from the Angolan War. Every day she still goes to the station, hoping that he might step off a train. The puppeteer Edith is waiting for an invitation from Europe, whilst her partner Alex will be staying behind. Frank and Alain are best friends from school and dream of becoming baseball stars in the USA; one of them will indeed be leaving the country soon. The film’s visual language, shot in static shots in black and white, sets it apart. “Some images captivate the viewer just like a painting in a museum (...) The film shows the island in a way it has rarely been filmed before” (“Micropsiacine.com”). Even though it deals with themes such as migration and separation, *Los Oceanos...* is filmed in such a way that one “would rather go there than want to escape from it. The country is a magical place, (...) which can be both extremely sad and extremely beautiful at the same time” (“The Hollywood Reporter”). The film had its international premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
About the director: Tommaso Santambrogio (born in Italy in 1992), a filmmaker and writer, lived and studied in Milan, Rome, Paris and Havana. He has collaborated with renowned directors such as Werner Herzog and Lav Díaz. His short films have been screened at Venice and other major festivals worldwide. The Cuban-Italian co-production *Los Oceanos son los verdaderos continentes* is his first feature film and premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it was screened in competition. At the Havana Film Festival, the film attracted attention for its visual style.

Alex y Edith, una joven pareja, alimentan una relación de pequeños gestos entre las ruinas de edificios cubanos. Milagros, una anciana jubilada, sobrevive vendiendo maní, escuchando la radio y leyendo cartas antiguas. Frank y Alain, dos niños de 9 años, van a la escuela y sueñan con emigrar a EEUU para convertirse en jugadores de béisbol de grandes ligas. En San Antonio de los Baños, un pueblo al suroeste de La Habana donde el tiempo parece haberse detenido, estos tres mundos fluyen y se desarrollan. La película tuvo su estreno internacional en el importante festival de Venecia. „Y hay imágenes en blanco y negro que se llevan puesto casi todo, que obligan al espectador a observarlas como quien se queda en un museo parado frente a una obra. [La película] …es un poema visual sobre Cuba, un tableau vivant de dos horas que nos permite conocer un poco a algunas personas y, más que nada, mostrar a la isla como pocas veces se la ha filmado“(Micropsiacine.com).
