ANIMATION FilmFestival!
BEST OF ANNECY 2026
03.-12. AUGUST 2026
We are proud to share with our audience BEST of the Prestigious ANIMATION FESTIVAL: ANNECY
14 Films in 10 DAYs & Shorts Films Programs.
Babylon snapped the best animated films from the famous Annecy International Animation Festival; the biggest festival of this kind in the world!
SPECIAL: Director Christian Franz Schmidt will be our Guest for Q&A Sa, 08.08. 20:00 & Di, 11.08 20:00
If you want to try some comedy that comes from closer to home, we’re bringing you what is making waves as the German rival to Rick and Morty and Final Space: Soul Shift! Director Christian Franz Schmidt found a genius premise to unleash its dark philosophy and even darker humour on us!
Eine Geschichte über Mut, Freundschaft und den Schutz der Meere
So we are bringing to your doorstep the newest award-winning animated feature films from all over the globe, with highlights from France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Chile, China and Japan, just to name a few!
Let yourself be swept inside a breathtakingly beautiful world that looks like a painting!
DO NOT MISS
- the surreal adventures coming from as far as Taiwan, with pop-goth-cute and stylish horror story Welcome to Dolly`s House
- Decorado: If dark comedy is what interests you, Decorado, the Spanish contender film in our list, has everything you dreamed and had nightmares about! Don’t get fooled by the cute-looking mice characters. This is a proper anti-Disney capitalist nightmare in the search for true freedom, a little like an animated Truman Show, just with impressive animation and art direction!
We continue with a strong contender in weirdness and genius with Spacetime Chronicles the stop motion magnum opus created by hand and entirely by director Stefano Bertelli!
Yes, Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, the director of Contrechamp Jury Prize Winner Film A New Dawn, has a background as a painter, and you can really feel it when you immerse yourself in his characters' dilemmas in their increasingly gentrified world.
If you’re looking for more beauty tangled with a deep story, you should check out Brave Cat, Annecy Presents Audience Award winner, and the latest film of Oscar-winning Chilean Director Gabriel Osorio Vargas!
The sets are magical; the whole world and the cute characters look made out of felt, so it also appeals to kids, but the adults may appreciate the wholesome message and the inspiration from real events from the Pinochet’s era.
If you like the socio-political commentary, and slightly less kids-friendly material, you should come and see Annecy’s Grand Prix Contrechamp Winner, Blaise. Its 2D photographic collage and cutout animation is so weird and wonderful, and you’ll totally fall for the extremely awkward 16-year-old titular character trying to make sense of this crazy world.
More laugh-out-loud satire also arrives from China, with the film Nobody.
Take a pig, a toad, a weasel, and a gorilla, add a sprinkle of folktales and a pinch of Journey to the West, and you get an extremely funny workplace satire, and the highest-grossing domestic 2D animated feature film in Chinese history!
If you’re looking for something more uplifting, we have anime romantic musical The Obsessed, and mystic coming-of-age drama The Keeper of the Camphor Tree, both fresh from Japan!
We also snapped a couple of the best animated family films in the festival:
Beautiful and whimsical Chimney Town: Frozen in Time also from Japan, and finally inspiring underwater adventure Der letzte Walsänger [DF] made in Germany, which will be presented by director and writer Reza Memari in person in August 5th!
So, grab your seats ASAP, as it’s just 10 days of rare film gems, which just came out of the Annecy Festival and may not be granted wide commercial cinema release, but definitely NEED TO BE SEEN ON THE BIG SCREEN to appreciate the painstaking level of detail, and be truly immersed in this once-in-a-lifetime cinema experience!
