The Irish Film Berlin Festival is both a celebration of Irish film, and a cultural and social event that brings people together over St. Patrick’s Weekend. With a blend of thought-provoking documentaries, films and a curated selection of shorts, there’s something for everyone. Come for the screenings and stay for the craic – we’ll have a live music session too!
Now in its fourth year, the festival brings you on a journey through Ireland's past, present, and future, along with its music. This year, the focus is on Dublin and the East.
On Friday, two generations, two love stories, one city – as queer self-discovery in Girls & Boys meets chaotic romantic desperation in Intermission, capturing Dublin at its most intimate and unruly.
Saturday celebrates Ireland’s land, stories and songs, from Listen to the Land Speak to a tasty Spice Bag of shorts, with music from the Irish soul-swagger of The Commitments to disappearing venues of late-night trad in Farewell to Hughes’s.
Sunday traces the pulse of rebellion and resilience – with a child’s-eye view of a Dublin changed by heroin in Spilt Milk, the roar of punk in Outsider Artists and the In Time tribute to folk legend Donal Lunny.
We continue on Monday with Sanatorium an Irish produced documentary set in Odessa Ukraine where even in wartime Ukrainians attempt to find some rest and healing.
Finally, on Tuesday and Wednesday, in Patrick’s Day and Small Things Like These, private lives are shaped – and shaken – by forces close to home, from suffocating love to buried secrets.

Beim Irish Film Berlin Festival geht es nicht nur darum, die Bandbreite des irischen Films zu zeigen – es ist ein Kulturfestival, das Menschen am St.-Patricks-Wochenende zusammenführt. Mit einer Mischung aus Dokumentarfilmen, die zum Nachdenken anregen, energiegeladenen Spielfilmen und einer kuratierten Auswahl an Kurzfilmen, bietet es für jeden etwas. Kommt wegen der Filme und bleibt für den Craic (Spaß in Grün!) – denn neben den Filmvorführungen erwartet euch auch eine Live-Musik-Session!
Das Festival findet nun bereits zum vierten Mal statt. Es führt die Zuschauer auf eine Reise durch die Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft Irlands und seine vielfältige Musikkultur. Dieses Jahr liegt der regionale Fokus auf Dublin.
Am Freitag stehen zwei Generationen, zwei Liebesgeschichten und eine Stadt im Mittelpunkt. Während es in Girls & Boys Themen um queere Selbstfindung behandelt, trifft in Intermission chaotische romantische Verzweiflung aufeinander und zeigt Dublin von seiner intimsten und unberechenbarsten Seite.
Der Samstag widmet sich Irlands Landschaften, Geschichten und Liedern. Das Programm reicht von Filmen wie Listen to the Land Speak und einer exquisiten Auswahl an Kurzfilmen in Spice Bag und dem irischen Soul der Band The Commitments bis zu dem Dokumentarfilm Farewell to Hughes’s über den Verlust traditioneller Musikpubs.
Der Sonntag folgt dem Puls der Rebellion und Widerstandsfähigkeit – mit einem kindlichen Blick auf ein durch Heroin verändertes Dublin in Spilt Milk, ordentlichem Punk in Outsider Artists und der Hommage In Time an die Folk-Legende Donal Lunny.
