The film begins in 1934 and tells the story of the events of the following few years, but the reminiscing narration is made at least thirty years later. 

The wealthy Lőrinc happens to dine in a small pub when recognizing his ex-classmate, the cantankerous Miklos, who enters the place with two of his friends and immediately starts picking a fight. Eventually the policemen take him away, but soon after Lőrinc finds not him, but one of his friends dead on the street.
