During the war, the Tót family resides in Northern Hungary. The couple has a daughter and a son, the latter being a member of the armed forces. When his weary major – ostensibly having a nervous breakdown - is ordered to take a vacation, the son talks him into visiting his family home. Comedy ensues when the Tóts go overboard trying to make things pleasant for the visiting major in the hope of an easier life for their son. Unawares of the fact that he died in combat long before.
