Supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture (Department of Contemporary Arts)

Farid Rahimi travelled around the world to create the art project AFGHANISTAN, curated by Luca Cerizza, chief curator of Italian Pavilion - Venice Art Biennale 2024, and winner of the Italian Council Award XII edition, promoted by Italian Culture Ministry, The Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity.

Farid Rahimi - born in Switzerland, but grown up and living in Italy - has travelled huge physical, inner and emotional distances. He has travelled around the world to facet and reconstruct his identity, fragmented between distant family ties and a sense of belonging to a country, Afghanistan, that he has never visited. A reflection that, starting from an individual need, leads to investigate the universal concept of diaspora.                                                                 The journey of documentation, discovery and encounter made by the artist in Japan, Australia, Germany, the United States of America and Turkey constitutes the material and conceptual basis of the art work AFGHANISTAN, a medium-length film that will take the form of a two-channel video installation or an artist's film.
