London hält den Atem an, denn der unbekannte Serienmörder AVENGER greift sich immer wieder blonde Mädchen. Im Elternhaus von Daisy taucht ein mysteriöser und attraktiver, neuer Mieter auf. Irgendetwas stimmt mit ihm nicht, meint Daisy’s Freund, ein Polizist.
Das Journal Bioscope schrieb damals begeistert: "It is possible that this film is the finest British production ever made"

The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog ist ein britischer Stummfilmkrimi aus dem Jahr 1927 unter der Regie von Alfred Hitchcock mit Marie Ault, Arthur Chesney, June Tripp, Malcolm Keen und Ivor Novello in den Hauptrollen.

Er war Hitchcocks dritter Spielfilm und wurde am 14. Februar 1927 in London und am 10. Juni 1928 in New York City veröffentlicht.

Der Film basiert auf dem 1913 erschienenen Roman The Lodger von Marie Belloc Lowndes und dem von Belloc Lowndes mitverfassten Theaterstück Who Is He? Die Handlung dreht sich um die Jagd nach einem Jack-the-Ripper-ähnlichen Serienmörder in London.

Der Film war Hitchcocks erster Thriller und machte ihn als Regisseur bekannt, und die Fachzeitschrift Bioscope schrieb bei seiner Veröffentlichung: "Es ist möglich, dass dieser Film die beste britische Produktion ist, die je gedreht wurde".

It's full of suspense and eroticism: Alfred Hitchcock became a star with THE LODGER. Having just returned from Germany and deeply impressed by the expressionist filmmaking there, he shot this thriller.
London holds its breath, because the unknown serial killer AVENGER keeps grabbing blonde girls. A mysterious and attractive new tenant shows up at Daisy's parents' house. Something is wrong with him, Daisy's friend, a policeman, thinks.
The journal Bioscope wrote enthusiastically at the time: "It is possible that this film is the finest British production ever made".

The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog is a 1927 British silent thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Marie Ault, Arthur Chesney, June Tripp, Malcolm Keen and Ivor Novello. Hitchcock's third feature film, it was released on 14 February 1927 in London and on 10 June 1928 in New York City. The film is based on the 1913 novel The Lodger by Marie Belloc Lowndes and the play Who Is He? co-written by Belloc Lowndes. Its plot concerns the hunt for a Jack the Ripper-like serial killer in London.[1]
Hitchcock's first thriller, the film established him as a name director.Upon its release the trade journal Bioscope wrote: "It is possible that this film is the finest British production ever made".
