BERLATIN: NIGHT HAS COME (VINO LA NOCHE) [OmeU]

Peru, 2024, R: Paolo Tizón, 96 min. Regisseurin anwesend!

A raw and intimate portrait of masculinity forged under the shadow of war

Join us for a special Berlin screening with director Paolo Tizón in attendance, followed by a post-screening conversation with the audience.

As part of our monthly BERLATIN program, we present the Berlin premiere of Night Has Come (O.T. “Vino la Noche”), a powerful debut feature that explores how young men are shaped into soldiers within the Peruvian Armed Forces, and what is lost along the way.

The film follows a group of recruits, many of them teenagers, who voluntarily enlist in a demanding military program in hopes of fighting in the VRAEM region, an area marked by long-standing armed conflict under Peru’s “war on drugs” policy. What begins as youthful adventure gradually turns into a stark journey through fear, discipline, and transformation rarely seen in a military setting.

Filmed from within the barracks, Tizón’s camera remains close and intimate, revealing not only the violence of military life but also unexpected moments of care, tenderness, and vulnerability: glimpses of humanity in a system designed to erase them.

Premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it received both the Special Jury Prize and the FIPRESCI Award in the Proxima Competition, and awarded Best Direction at the Málaga Film Festival, Night Has Come offers a haunting reflection on war, masculinity, and belonging.

The premiere is part of BERLATIN Screenings, a year-round showcase of Latin American cinema presenting the region’s best stories to Berlin audiences. The series is organized by LATIN QUARTER Film Distribution in partnership with Kino Babylon.
