One of the earliest surviving Chinese silent films in the wuxia (martial arts) genre. The story follows Yun Mei, a young woman who is kidnapped by bandits and later rescued by a mysterious Daoist hermit. Under his guidance, she learns martial arts and returns to seek revenge against those who wronged her. Known for its strong female protagonist and early special effects, the film is a landmark in Chinese cinema history and a rare surviving example of 1920s wuxia filmmaking.
