ALONG THE SEA follows three young Vietnamese migrant workers in Japan, who moved to Japan to work as technical trainees. As they decide to escape their workplace, where their passports have been confiscated, they are now illegal migrants in the country. Inspired by true stories & based on interviews of Vietnamese women immigrants in Japan.

Phương, Như và An đã quyết định bỏ trốn sau mấy tháng trời bị chủ chèn ép, phải làm việc đến 15 tiếng/ngày, mà lương thì quá thấp không đủ sống. “Câu chuyện về người nhập cư và di cư ở Nhật Bản là một trong những chủ đề hiếm khi được các nhà làm phim Nhật để mắt tới. Khi tuổi thọ bình quân của người dân Nhật ngày càng cao, số người trong độ tuổi lao động giảm nhanh, giải pháp của Nhật Bản là tạm thời cho phép lao động nước ngoài vào làm việc, nhưng cũng xảy ra nhiều phận đời bấp bênh”. Director: Akio Fujimoto directed his first short "PSYCHEDELIC FAMILY” (2013), a piece based on his own experiences in a crumbling family. His first feature "PASSAGE OF LIFE" premiered at the Tokyo International Film festival (2017), where it was awarded Best Asian Future Film and The Spirit of Asia Award. He is directing programs and documentaries for Japanese Broadcaster NHK.
