This is a strong film with striking images of African village life, examining the evolving nature of traditions. Sembéne himself regarded this work as 'his most African film'. Other topics addressed by the film are globalization and feminism within a rural reality.

Bass clarinetist, Ziv Taubenfeld and percussionist, Dudù Kouate create live-soundtracks for films by Ousmane Sembène. Their work is characterized by a wide palette of sounds with imaginative and often wild ways of relating to the visual language of films.
