Leila and the wolves has been restored by CNC – Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée. Selected for Venice Classics 2021.

Making Waves Berlin, presents the screening of Heiny Srour’s newly restored feminist classic Leila and the Wolves, a landmark of Arab cinema that blends political insight with poetic vision.
Screening followed by an in-person conversation with the pioneering director, moderated by Myrna Maakaron.

Leila and the Wolves reveals a nearly forgotten past of women’s struggles in Palestine and Lebanon, retelling regional narratives from a feminist perspective. The protagonist, Leila (played by Nabila Zeitoni), is a Lebanese student in 1980s London, staging a photography exhibition that highlights women as the unsung heroines of political conflict. Through time-travel sequences spanning the 1900s to the 1980s, she journeys across real and imagined landscapes of Lebanon and Palestine.

This event was made possible through the generous collaboration of Elias Stemeseder, Ege Yumuşak and “Delegation DGCFRW Belgische Botschaft Berlin"
