To mark International Roma Day 2025, the Protestant Academy in Berlin, the Critical Film & Image Hub at the Research Centre on Antigypsyism (University of Heidelberg) and the Society for Antigypsyism Studies (GfA) are hosting a special screening of Housekeeping for Beginners (2023) by North Macedonian director Goran Stolevski.

The film premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival in September 2023, where it was awarded the Queer Lion. Furthermore, it was selected as North Macedonia’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards (2024). Housekeeping for Beginners tells the story of a multi-ethnic queer family living near Shutka, an administrative unit of Skopje, North Macedonia’s capital, which has adopted Romani as an official language.
