Six masters craft their creations from raw materials: earth, wood, glass, and stone.

From the north to the south of Italy, Daniele De Michele portrays incredible characters: the last artisans, the last “Mastri”, unique in their humanity and in their craft.

They transform and shape it using the power of natural elements: water, fire, and air. Two alabaster craftsmen from Volterra, a young Neapolitan luthier, clay pot makers in Romagna, a drum maker on the slopes of Vesuvius, a young Senegalese man learning glassmaking in Murano, and a Venetian master carpenter.

Their work leads them to observe the changing world, the closure of workshops, mass production, and the end of the transmission of knowledge. Everything is synthesized in an ephemeral and symbolic work that has been built every year for centuries with wood cut in Novoli, in Salento.

A metaphor for the myth of Sisyphus, of the stone that continues to be lifted despite everything, because the masters, tenacious and proud, remain to resist the elements and defend the eternity of their knowledge.
